Oingt and the Golden-Stone villages
Listed among France’s most beautiful villages, Oingt perches its golden-stone houses on a Beaujolais hill: at sunset, the walls seem to catch fire. Ternand, Jarnioux and Theizé extend the walk in this mineral gold. You stroll between climbing flowers and little artist workshops, before tasting a glass of chilled Beaujolais on a shaded terrace.
Beaujolais and Mont Brouilly
To the north, Beaujolais covers ten crus and dozens of welcoming estates. Mont Brouilly, a former volcano standing in the middle of the vines, offers a 360-degree panorama out to the Alps on clear days. Walking up together from Odenas, then coming down to taste a cru in a cellar, makes a date both sporty and gourmet. On the Rhône side, Côte Rôtie and its steep slopes open onto another prestigious vineyard.
Villefranche and the Lyonnais Mountains
Capital of the Beaujolais, Villefranche-sur-Saône lines Rue Nationale with its Renaissance mansions and hosts a big Sunday-morning market. South-west of Lyon, the Lyonnais Mountains unfold meadows, chestnut trees and quiet villages. On Lyad, members from the Rhône share their favourite cellars and Sunday walks; it is up to you to find someone to raise a glass with.
